Rice Marketing Board for the State of New South Wales

The Rice Marketing

The primary function of the Rice Marketing Board (RMB) for the State of NSW is to obtain the best possible monetary return for rice farmers whilst maintaining an orderly marketing system.

The RMB, established under the Marketing of Primary Products Act 1927 (NSW), receives all rice produced in NSW under a vesting proclamation, with government approval.

The Rice Marketing Board is responsible for:

  • arranging the efficient marketing of paddy rice grown in NSW to the best advantage of all producers
  • meeting the requirements of all Acts and legislation governing the RMB
  • encouraging appropriate research
  • liaising with other industry organisations.

Ricegrowers' Association of Australia

Ricegrowers’ Association of Australia (RGA)

The Ricegrowers' Association of Australia (RGA) is the national representative organisation of rice farmers. The reason for the RGA's formation in 1930 was to unite rice farmers into an effective and cohesive industry group; to protect rice farmers' interests in terms of marketing and access to irrigation water; and other factors affecting the rice industry.

The Rice Growers' Association of Australia has four responsibilities to rice growers. They are:

  • the development and implementation of policy for the rice industry that is in the best interests of rice farmers
  • to represent the interests of rice farmers at all levels of government and their various agencies, and other organisations with common or opposing interests, and to the community in general
  • to promote and coordinate rice farmer education programs, such as best management practice and quality assurance
  • to service the needs of individual rice farmers.
